The Viera and Clavijo Park is making progress with the renovation works aimed at revitalising this iconic structure in the capital, which will provide a comprehensive civic and cultural hub. The City of Santa Cruz has initiated sector consultations to explore new functions for the site this year. This was revealed yesterday by the Councillor for Culture, Santiago Díaz, during the unveiling of the regional budgets for 2025, which total 7.8 million euros, with over 3 million earmarked for personnel.
The mayor disclosed that, “For the prospective use of the Viera and Clavijo, both local and national cultural organisations have been invited to engage who are interested in managing the facility, in addition to technically overseeing the four rooms and facilitating the activities in the space, which will always be accessible to all citizens, both inside and outside the building.”
Díaz further highlighted that another initiative scheduled for 2025 will concentrate on establishing the Masonic temple, following the completion of restoration efforts on the property. This venue will embrace culture, as “the intent is to evolve it into an interpretation centre and subsequently a museum, for which discussions are already underway with the Salamanca archive and notable lodges to determine their contributions to this endeavour.”
Other initiatives will include the reopening of the former recova next summer, which will house the cultural programme of the Guimerá Theatre that will close its doors on April 1 for complete rehabilitation. In this regard, the mayor expounded that “the R Space will cater to the performing arts, meaning the aim is to establish as large a stage as possible to accommodate the productions. Furthermore, another proposal is to encourage street activities, culminating in the participation of the music band, 16 school choirs, and 34 folk groups within the municipality.”
