Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 4 Feb. (Europa Press) –

The President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, expressed his confidence on Tuesday regarding the impending decree for the exceptional distribution of unaccompanied migrant minors in conjunction with the Minister for Children and Youth, Sira Rego.

In remarks to the press, he mentioned that the specific number of places is to be finalised—initially 4,000 from the Canary Islands and an additional 400 from Ceuta—the funding and the criteria that would be established to ensure that the allocation “is fair” and that “the efforts of the communities that have historically contributed are recognised.”

“If that uncertainty is resolved on Thursday and the funding is clarified, which is already quite advanced, it will need to be finalised or confirmed during the forthcoming meeting with the vice president, María Jesús Montero. We can then promptly convene a meeting with the political groups,” he stated.

Clavijo acknowledged that the visit to children in Tenerife and El Hierro did not result in “images” being made public through the media.
