The Local Police of La Laguna yesterday celebrated its traditional Christmas with heart campaign, an initiative that is now in its sixth edition in order to collect non-perishable food for families with fewer resources. The bags that were arriving as tokens of solidarity were collected by the Red Cross for distribution. This year, in addition, toys and food were obtained for the dogs and cats of the Valle Colino Regional Shelter.
After the stoppage of last year due to the health crisis, the surroundings of the Cathedral once again showed off its old pedestal from which the city’s traffic was regulated, with an agent wearing a uniform from the 70s. Next to him There were other comrades in costumes from the last century, two military vehicles from the Second World War and the so-called “municipal ambulance”, similar to the one that the Police Force used in the past when it participated in relief efforts.
Civil Protection, the Radio Taxi Laguna Cooperative, the La Laguna Taxi Autonomous Association and the Local Police Canine Unit also collaborated in this solidarity action, which offered a demonstration on the work they carry out.
From early in the morning until late in the afternoon, dozens of people approached the collection point coordinated by the Department of Citizen Security to collaborate in this initiative. The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, and the mayor responsible for the area, Alejandro Marrero, along with other members of the City Council, were some of those who stopped by the installed stand.
