The Roble Project cares for homeless people who, after being discharged from hospital, require specialized assistance. Through it, support is given in matters such as help to carry out activities of daily life, promote continuity in medical treatment and facilitate rest. This initiative has been developed by the Spanish Red Cross in coordination with the Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Institute for Social and Socio-Health Care (IASS), and offers a care service 24 hours a day in an apartment set up for this purpose.

The project seeks to provide temporary support to those people who, due to homelessness, cannot receive them at home. From the team that works in it, they see this service as a continuation of the hospital admission. For this reason, the maximum stay of each person does not exceed, as a rule, three months, and the time strictly necessary for the recovery of their convalescence is extended.

Based on this, this initiative is not only responsible for promoting recovery at the health level, but also seeks to provide alternatives to achieve reintegration at the social level. An example of this is the promotion and support when looking for housing alternatives. For the staff, the project is a way to redirect their lives and offer them an opportunity to move forward, from a health and social perspective.

Since its inception in 2017, the Roble Project has received support from the IASS. This year, through its Insular Ring of Social Policies, it has subsidized its activity with an item of 287,000 euros, thanks to which a multidisciplinary team has been able to serve 18 people during the day and night.

For the Cabildo de Tenerife this project is of great importance, not only because of its clear social character and because it offers a necessary service, but because of its approach, since it seeks to respond to problems that are not always so visible, providing effective solutions and improving the lives of the people who need it.
