Officers from the National Police have apprehended two individuals sought by the German authorities for allegedly purchasing and disseminating counterfeit €20 notes.
Specifically, they are charged with two financial offences and crimes against public trust, which could result in penalties of up to 15 years in prison, as detailed by sources from the provincial police headquarters.
An urgent request for their location and detention was received on January 23. Following an analysis of the information available, the officers were able to ascertain that both men might be employed at a hospitality venue in southern Tenerife.
On the same day, specialised agents from the National Police proceeded to the site, where they successfully identified two individuals matching the descriptions of the fugitives and carried out their arrest.
According to the European arrest warrant, the allegations against them involve the purchase and subsequent distribution of counterfeit €20 notes, commonly referred to as “falsificifications of Naples.”
The detainees allegedly obtained the forged €20 notes in this Italian city, intending to circulate them as genuine currency.
In fact, the suspects circulated these counterfeit notes on as many as nine separate occasions.
Following their apprehension, the fugitives have been handed over to the Judicial Authority to initiate the extradition process requested by Germany.
