The municipal market of Our Lady of Africa has been modernised with the objective of providing a platform for citizens to purchase products. To facilitate this, the City Council will introduce, starting this February, a new mobile application that will enable online shopping at the market stalls, thus enhancing the existing sales and distribution channels.

The Councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, stated yesterday that “the app, which will commence its initial phase in February, will undergo a testing period lasting three months. Initially, it will only permit purchases from a single market stall, allowing for individual transactions to assess its functionality. Hence, if you make a purchase from a butcher’s shop, it will not be possible during this early stage to buy from another stall.”

Following the trial phase, he added, “the app will then expand to encompass the remaining businesses, allowing for purchases from a greater number of market outlets. Once customers complete their orders, the products will be placed in smart, refrigerated lockers situated at the entrance of the Recova.”

The mayor reiterated that this new initiative is part of the Recova transformation project and its surrounding area, involving an investment of 2.1 million euros, with 1.7 million sourced from the European Next Generation funds. “The Recova deserves an upgrade to its offerings, which will enhance the website and also implement the mobile application that is set to stimulate the economy and improve customer satisfaction and loyalty,” he remarked.
