Why The Casino Sector is Thriving in the Canaries

The Canary Islands are pretty much known for being the go-to holiday hotspots in Europe, where Brits flock to in their droves to escape rain, cloud, and cold to get a bit of sun on their faces. It’s fair to say that tourism has been the backbone of the region’s economy for as long as we can remember.

That being said, the casino industry has also started to do pretty well. Thanks to the luxurious land-based casinos and a pretty impressive online gambling scene, it’s definitely somewhere to consider if you consider yourself a casino player.

But why is it doing so well these days? Let’s take a look:

Top for Tourists

Every year, the Canary Islands attract literally millions of tourists – and the fact that it does attract visitors means that there’s always a pretty decent customer base for casinos.

Tourists want to be entertained. They want things to do and a bit of excitement… and don’t necessarily want to be just hanging out on the beaches. In the evening, casinos can offer holidaymakers a great mix of luxury, excitement and the chance to win money.

The region has some seriously high-end casinos that perfectly complement the islands’ most up-scale and high-end resorts, ideal for travellers who have a bit of money to spend.

A Great Location

The Canaries also have a great location, right at the crossroads of Europe, Africa, and the Americas – which means they get travellers from the three different continents. It’s well connected with airports and is perfect for clientele from all walks of life. They also benefit from a steady flow of cruise ship passengers – in summer and winter… including plenty of monied tourists looking to splash their cash.

Lots of Options

The Canaries also have plenty of options to choose from – from the most glamorous and gorgeous land-based casinos to handy online platforms that you can access from anywhere.

If you want to dress up and get the real feel, then there are a number of impressive land-based options like Casino Las Palmas in Gran Canaria and Casino Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz, Tenerife. Here, you’ll get to enjoy a mix of traditional table games, modern slots, and even poker tournaments. You can enjoy live shows, gourmet food and cocktails galore as you while away the hours.

But there’s also the option to play from the comfort of your hotel room – thanks to the variety of big-name brands and new independent casino sites available to UK players and residents in the Canary Islands.

A Boost to the Economy

The Canaries cannot thrive on tourism alone – and the casino sector makes a surprisingly impressive contribution to the economy of the Canary Islands – not just through taxes and fees, but also by creating jobs and supporting the community.

The money that comes from casinos really helps to boost the public coffers – money that can then be used on infrastructure, promoting tourism and more. It also creates jobs like dealers and croupiers, management and office staff, meaning even more employment opportunities on the islands.

A Social Appeal

The Canary Islands have also managed to successfully integrate casinos into their entertainment landscape. Unlike some places – where casinos work very much as solo entities, the Canaries make sure that they are perfectly positioned to be a solid part of the overall tourist experience.

At the top casinos, they don’t just have games – they usually play host to live music events, exhibitions, cultural events and more – which attracts a much wider audience than just casino players.

More Online Casinos

We also can’t ignore the fact that, as is the case with most regions and countries, there are more top-class online casinos than ever before. With better technology and practically everyone owning a smartphone –  online casinos and sports betting sites have never been more popular.

Not only does this mean a lot more flexibility – but it also means you can access seriously impressive bonuses and promotions, to give you even more value for money. You’ll also be able to try out hundreds – and even thousands of games that you won’t find in standard, land-based casinos.

Conclusion

Casinos in the Canaries are thriving – and for many reasons. Not only is it the perfect destination – right between Europe, Africa and the Americas, but it attracts millions of holidaymakers every year, all with money to spend. It’s now a huge boost to the economy and we’re excited to see how far it goes!
