SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE Jan 29 (Europa Press) –

The political factions of the Popular Party, Canarian Coalition, and Vox have formalised a governmental agreement in the municipality of Arona on Wednesday, aimed at ensuring the stability of the governing body following the expulsion of the councillors from more by Arona.

Under this arrangement, Naim Yánez will assume the role of deputy mayor and oversee the departments of tourism, culture, and historical heritage, while his colleague Melania Santos will be the appointed councillor for Economic Promotion, the Primary Sector, and Employment.

Additionally, Javier Baute will lead the Urban Planning and Territorial Planning division, Devi Pereyra will manage housing, human resources, heritage, and transport, and Ruth Guacimara Martín, alongside social services, will take on responsibilities for the elderly and Adesa.

The revised organisational structure also designates Guacimara Tavío to oversee the councils of Finance and Procurement, with Héctor Reyes appointed as the Delegate Councillor for Education, Works and Infrastructure, Local Police, Urban Mobility, Traffic, and Road Safety.

In a joint statement, the three parties emphasise that the agreement positions citizens and their welfare as a “fundamental premise” and maintains the “same objectives and lines of action” as the Governance Agreement and strategic plan for Arona through to 2027.

Consequently, they indicate that the stability of the City Council as a whole is prioritised, based on a commitment to transparency in municipal governance.

They affirm that “the political management of the three governing factions will hinge on the principles of unity and accountability to citizens, with a pledge to operate as an ‘open government’, capable of fostering trust within the community and validating the measures adopted at all times.”

All of this, they underline, “is accomplished through governance that champions the principles of transparency, integrity, accountability, and citizen participation, reinforcing democracy and the progress of the municipality of Arona.”

PP, CC, and Vox underline that the foundations sustaining the new governing body are “management, dialogue, consensus, moderation, tolerance, citizen engagement, and the promotion of Arona’s collective interests, all aimed at enhancing the lives of the aroneros and advancing significant projects for the municipality.”

Unsurprisingly, the governing body is “convinced” that through citizen participation, “power is decentralised, allowing residents to influence decisions that significantly affect them.”
