The Radar and Traffic Enforcement Officers of the Local Police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife have identified a vehicle travelling at a speed of 124 km/h on the Avenida de la Constitución heading towards the city, where the speed limit is set at 50 km/h.

The motorist, recognised as JFMC, aged 44, has been charged with a potential offence against road safety.

Penalty

Under Spanish law, exceeding the urban speed limit by more than 60 km/h is classified as a criminal offence against road safety.

Penalties may include imprisonment ranging from 3 to 6 months, a monetary fine lasting from 6 to 12 months, or community service for a period of 31 to 90 days, in addition to a suspension of the right to operate motor vehicles and mopeds for a duration of 1 to 4 years.

This incident is part of a concerning trend, as several recent cases have seen drivers penalised for grossly surpassing established speed limits, underscoring the vital importance of adhering to traffic regulations to ensure road safety.
