Inma Medina’s Fascination with Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival

“I would be thrilled to receive the fortune and support that Santa Cruz de Tenerife enjoys for its carnival. Here, we find ourselves in a position of pleading, requesting, and imploring for certain areas that belong to the city but are under the jurisdiction of other authorities,” stated The Carnival Councillor, Inma Medina, during the announcement of the venues for the galas and concerts of the Carnival of ‘The Olympic Games.’

“I do not view them as competitors; the Carnival of La Palma de Gran Canaria is recognised as an International Tourist Interest Celebration and we aspire for it to be the best carnival globally. Meanwhile, Santa Cruz de Tenerife has the backing of the media, the institutions, and the locals who rally together around it,” she added.

On the utilisation of the area of the Canary Islands in the interchange zone as one of the venues for the Carnival Circuit, Medina expressed that “the Unique Transportation Authority is what we aim to engage with, but not to seek permission.” She also addressed the representatives of the Port Authority, stating, “What we seek is, if it’s possible, to grant us permission to use the maritime front area, which falls under your responsibility.”

“There has been no improvisation”

The Carnival Councillor stressed that the most cherished festivities in the city “have not been improvised,” citing that planning for the Carnival of 2026 has already commenced—a date that marks fifty years since the return of the galas and street celebrations. She expressed a desire to “have greater faith in the carnival and in the teams that facilitate it, as nothing is haphazard here; not a single event, not even a scale in Hi-Fi, moves forward without considering all security measures,” she emphasised.

Regarding the existing open tenders on the Public Sector Hiring platform, whose deadlines conclude a day prior to the festivities—such as the Village rental and the provision of Image, lighting, and sound services at values of 99,000 euros and 769,984 euros respectively—Medina affirmed that “we have adhered to the timeline as we do every year.” Additionally, she mentioned, “we are proceeding in a timely manner.”

Quevedo stated that if the stands will not be present on the day of the proclamation, it is because “I find it artistically beneficial, as I desire an open carnival for everyone, free from barriers and limitations,” although

Councillor Inma Medina concluded the presentation about the spaces for the carnival, asserting that “they will strive to fulfil Rajatabla.”
