Since he founded his company, Vicente José Santos Luis, managing owner of Orotava Aguacates, dedicated to the distribution of this fruit, has always carried out solidarity actions by delivering merchandise to be distributed by Cáritas and Hogar Santa Rita.

But this year he wanted to give the donation “a twist” and thought that instead of giving this product, “dispensable” in the most needy families, it was better to make an exchange, “as my parents and grandparents did in their time” . Thus, in the month of May, Milagros González, the coordinator of Cáritas Diócesana in the Valley of La Orotava, proposed to exchange a kilo of avocados for another of non-perishable food and allocate it to the neediest families in the municipality.

The idea was accepted with success, also by the parish priest of the La Concepción church and the government group.

When everything was “practically organized” the volcanic eruption on La Palma took place and Vicente’s plans changed, who proposed to Caritas to complete the initiative with a one-euro raffle in which two dinners are raffled, the proceeds of which would go to the people affected by the volcano.

The idea was also approved and in addition, it was decided that the avocados to be exchanged would be from La Palma with the aim of also helping the farmers of this island.

Thus, on Sunday in the facade of the church of San Agustín the solidarity tripartite will take place: a kilo of avocados from La Palma will be exchanged for one of non-perishable food that will be distributed by Cáritas and in addition, two dinner raffles will be raffled to help the neediest families on Isla Bonita.

There will be about five people delivering and in case it rains, the event will move inside the church since the parish priest has given them permission. It will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until the avocados are gone, a total of 350 kilos, “which I hope will be as soon as possible,” says Vicente.
