German Tourism Industry Gathers in Tenerife This February

Tenerife will host the FVW Travel Talk congress from 15th to 19th February, regarded as the most significant event in the German tourism sector. This gathering, organised by the media group FVW Travel Talk, with the collaboration of Turismo de Tenerife, will take place for the second time on the island following its inaugural edition in 2021 and will assemble nearly fifty of the most distinguished experts and travel agents from Germany.

During the Madrid International Tourism Fair (Fitur), Lope Afonso, the vice president and tourism advisor of the Cabildo, along with Dimple Melwani, the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, held a preparatory meeting for the congress with Sönke Graumann, the director of Markets International for the FVW group.

Lope Afonso expressed his “delight at once again hosting such a prestigious professional event in Tenerife, which reinforces the confidence of the German tourism sector in our island and allows us to refresh our offerings for a market as vital as Germany ahead of the upcoming edition of the ITB Berlin.

Dimple Melwani, the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, stated, “Welcoming this significant event for the German market in Tenerife presents an excellent opportunity to connect the professional sector of the German industry with our island’s tourism sector for knowledge exchange and updates. This may also generate synergies between them for future partnerships with key travel agents in Germany.”

Discover Tenerife

Over the course of five days, participants will have the chance to discover Tenerife and explore the premium holiday options and active experiences it offers, all prioritising the destination’s sustainability. The agenda includes workshops in the form of discussion panels on Sunday, 16th February, at the Iberostar Grand Hotel Mencey in Santa Cruz, where German industry professionals will engage in collaborative sessions with companies from the local tourism sector to foster synergies and enhance professional connections. The event will blend working sessions with debates and discussions aimed at developing innovative strategies on how to effectively promote and establish the destination within the German market. Visits and excursions will also take place, from La Laguna to the Anaga Rural Park, including courses in Canarian cuisine, tasting Tenerife wines, hiking, and golfing, among others.

The FVW congress has a rich history spanning over 20 years, uniting key German tour operators, travel agents, and authorities, as well as representatives from tourist associations of various destinations, and specialists in products from leading tour operators in the country. Notable airline representatives, such as Condor and Eurowings, along with tour operators like TUI Germany, Alltours, Schauinsland, and Dertouristik will also be present at the event.

The German market constitutes the second most crucial international market for the island, trailing only the British, and ranks third globally for tourists visiting Tenerife, surpassed only by the British and Spanish markets. For the overall year of 2024, the number of German tourists staying in Tenerife’s tourist accommodations reached 447,017, marking an increase of 3.6 percent compared to the same period the previous year.
