Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 23rd January (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Tenerife delegation at Fitur has communicated this Thursday to tour operators, an array of travel agencies, airlines and hotel chains regarding the initiatives that encompass the strategy for economic, social, and environmental sustainability. This aims to ensure that alongside the actions of the businesses in the sector, Tenerife continues to progress toward becoming an island that is more “aware” of its heritage conservation and, consequently, more competitive.

For Lope Afonso, the Vice President and Councillor for Tourism at the Cabildo de Tenerife, the goal for 2025 during the fair is that “Tenerife remains the preferred destination for domestic tourists wishing to enjoy their holidays in the archipelago. This involves enhancing connectivity and simultaneously promoting a comprehensive vision of a destination that is solid in its traditional values yet ambitious in its commitment to sustainable and responsible management, prioritising quality over quantity and repositioning the destination to appeal to audience segments that have alternative expectations focused on experiencing enjoyment and valuing the island’s unique identity and essence.”

He adds, “We are contributing to diversifying the wealth generation brought by tourist visits, promoting the rural environment and the primary sector, and advancing towards the goal of regenerative tourism.”

Dimple Melwani, the CEO of Tenerife Tourism, highlights that during Fitur, they have shared their strategy with the global tourism sector “to bolster collaborations and enhance the entire value chain, particularly concerning sustainability, with the aim of attracting visitors who are more responsible and respectful of our natural environment.”

Melwani underscores the desire for Tenerife to be “not only an extraordinary holiday spot but also an ideal place to live for our residents. This commitment also entails the sector’s requalification to align training with business needs and foster stable employment.”

Furthermore, Melwani emphasises the significance of “both tourists and residents playing a role in preserving our heritage, through pivotal projects like REGENERATe or the Island Circular Economy Plan for the tourism sector, which are developed under a collaborative governance model, on which we are actively working and where there is still much to accomplish.”

The agenda for the island’s representation at the fair includes around thirty meetings with tour operators, hotel chains, travel agency networks, and airlines, including EasyJet, Lastminute, Jet2, Atrápalo, W2M, Viajes El Corte Inglés, TAP, Civitatis, Vueling, AENA, Royal Air Maroc, Edreams Odigeo, and Destinia.
