Experts from the Scientific Committee for the Evaluation and Monitoring of Volcanic Phenomena (CCES), established under the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Response related to volcanic risk in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (PEVOLCA), concur in characterising the activity as “unusual”. The Teide volcanic formation demonstrates signs that, while “they do not appear to be indicators of an imminent eruptive event, they do signify an escalation in the likelihood of such an occurrence in the medium to long term.”
