Canary Islands Upkeep Citizenship Income Boost Despite Central Government Refusal

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE Jan. 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of the Canary Islands will proceed with the revaluation of the Canarian Citizenship Income set for 2025, which raises the amounts received by beneficiaries of this aid by 9%, despite the rejection of the central Government decree this Wednesday in Congress, as announced by the Department of Social Welfare of the Canarian Executive on Thursday.

This initiative aims to address “the needs of the most vulnerable individuals and families in the Canary Islands”, commencing with the forthcoming January payroll, explained the regional Executive department in an official statement.

The Ministry highlights that the CCR is a financial support scheme intended to avert the risk of poverty and social exclusion among households lacking essential resources. It ensures that a minimum income level is provided to enable beneficiaries to meet fundamental needs and strive for improved social and employment integration.

The precise amount of the increase varies depending on individual circumstances, as unlike other benefits, the RCC is contingent upon the type of living arrangement.

Furthermore, it ranges from the 604.21 euros that a solitary adult received to the 658.81 euros they will now obtain in the January payroll (an increase of 54.6 euros gross), up to the difference between the 1,462.20 euros received in 2024 by single-parent families with four or more children under their care and the 1,594.33 euros they will now receive (an increase of 132.33 euros gross).
