The Cabildo of Tenerife has allocated 1.5 million euros to address the challenges related to wastewater discharges and to regularise the municipal purification system. The island’s president, Rosa Dávila (CC), along with the Minister of Natural Environment, Sustainability, and Security and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez (CC), and the mayor of Buenavista, Eva García (PSOE), convened on Tuesday to assess the local circumstances.
Dávila noted that the Cabildo has provided the council with 1.4 million euros to regularise the municipal wastewater treatment and discharge facilities, as well as to enhance connections and critical components of its sanitation systems. In addition, there is an extra contribution of approximately 129,000 euros aimed at reducing water losses within the distribution network, along with another 800,000 euros allocated for the Funche Irrigators, who operate in Los Silos and Buenavista, specifically for alterations to the project involving the establishment of a seawater desalination facility for self-consumption for agricultural irrigation.
“Among the investments we are making, one of the most significant pertains to water security, which includes eliminating spills and enhancing the municipality’s water supply network,” Dávila elaborated.
Conversely, Eva García expressed her appreciation “for such a crucial investment that will enable us to resolve a long-standing water issue via the municipal treatment plant,” while emphasising that it is also vital to minimise water losses from the distribution network.
