The Department of Social Welfare and Quality of Life of the La Laguna City Council has reviewed the activities undertaken by the Municipality’s Comprehensive Care Facility for Women during the previous year, 2024. In this timeframe, 1,167 users sought assistance from the various management sectors constituting this organisation.

The councillor in charge, María Cruz (PSOE), emphasised that “this facility is segmented into different areas of intervention, such as legal, psychological, or employment, with each case being specialised to ensure it is addressed in the most efficient manner possible.” At present, this service is delivered by two psychologists, a career advisor, a job scout, a solicitor, six social workers, and two administrative staff members.

“The primary aim is to provide women with specialised guidance, tailored to the individual’s needs, and equipping them with the skills and resources necessary to navigate any emergency situation,” the councillor remarked.

In this context, María Cruz elaborated that “frequently, we encounter women who, due to their financial or social circumstances, find themselves unable to independently manage a legal process or an unfavourable (psychological) predicament, as well as meet the demands of the job market.” “Thus, it is crucial to channel these cases through the dedicated service of this facility, where personalised support is offered,” she added.

Reflecting on the various services provided, the social and legal sectors are particularly notable, handling nearly 500 cases. The remainder of the cases is distributed among the employment sector and mental health services.

This public and welfare initiative has been structured in such a way that it can adapt to the changing socioeconomic landscape and the needs of the community. In conjunction with municipal accommodation resources, it represents an annual investment of €1.5 million, managed under the directive of the City Council, acting as its own entity, directed to Muvisa.

The council also disclosed that, during the prior year, over 160 individuals experiencing homelessness accessed municipal housing resources. Considering the trajectory over the last decade regarding the volume of family units accommodated, there has been a notable increase of 96%, they highlighted.
