Revamping the Route: Upgrades from La Centinela to La Camella Begin

The Cabildo has commenced improvement and refurbishment works on the segment of the southern motorway (TF-28) that stretches from La Centinela to La Camella, situated in Arona. The contract awarded to Construcciones Darias involves an investment of 1.6 million euros, with an anticipated completion timeframe of five months. The initiative was introduced by the island’s Highway Councillor, Damaso Arteaga, at the Valle San Lorenzo Cultural Centre. Attending the meeting were the Ministers of Citizen Assistance and Quality of Services, Candelaria Padrón, and of Commerce and Business Support, Krysten Martín; along with the mayor, Fátima Lemes, members of the Aronera Corporation, and local representatives.

“This is one of the most significant projects to be undertaken in the municipality.”

Dámaso Arteaga elaborated that this project will constitute a major progression “as our aim is to enhance the pavement condition and safety at bus stops and pedestrian crossings where intervention is urgently needed. In her remarks, Fátima Lemes characterised the works as “one of the most crucial initiatives that will be undertaken on the route from La Camella to La Centinela.”

The Cabildo also reminded the public of the recent call for tenders for 38 projects focused on enhancing safety measures and rehabilitating the pavement on the island’s roads. These activities involve resurfacing the roadway, improving drainage, signage, beacons, and road barriers. Additionally, the actions will encompass slope and embankment stabilisation on several key routes around the island. The total value of these contracts exceeds 700,000 euros.

Roads and Slopes

Dámaso Arteaga articulated, “with this suite of over 30 projects, we will implement throughout 2025 the enhancement initiatives needed for numerous road segments across Tenerife.” He asserted that this will involve resurfacing and rehabilitating pavements on many road sections which are currently in a dilapidated state, as well as addressing some of the most precarious slopes presently found in Tenerife. The island Corporation specifically mentioned those on the roads TF-13, TF-21 (Las Cañadas), TF-82 in Santiago del Teide, TF-629 (Arico), and TF-28 in the La Cisnera area (Arico).

In addition to these undertakings, the improvement of over 600 kilometres of roads across the island will take place. This initiative, with an investment surpassing 1 million euros, aims to refurbish signage and enhance visibility on routes that require repair due to wear and tear from usage and the effects of time.
