The Department of Social Welfare of La Laguna City Council has evaluated the initiatives undertaken in 2024 through various accommodation services made accessible to the public. This provision has enabled 28 families to attain socioeconomic reintegration over the previous year, with another nine families choosing to leave voluntarily, having improved their living standards.
The Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, emphasised “the significance of providing the most vulnerable citizens in our municipality with as many alternatives as possible to address different emergency situations and enhance the living circumstances of all family members until decent living conditions are achieved.”
In addition, the Councillor for Social Welfare and Quality of Life, María Cruz, stated that the local authority is committed to expanding these accommodation services to better meet the growing demand for public assistance among the population each year.
Of the 49 families that were transitioned from accommodation resources during 2024, 28 achieved this due to socioeconomic reintegration, nine opted for voluntary departure, and the remainder were referred to other services or obtained placement through other organisations, such as the Insular Institute of Social and Socio-sanitary Care of the Cabildo of Tenerife.
Recently, the Department of Social Welfare and Quality of Life reported that over the past year, more than 160 homeless individuals accessed municipal housing services. When examining the trend over the last decade, there has been a remarkable increase of 96% in the number of family units accommodated.
