The Cabildo de Tenerife develops works for 20 million in 13 municipalities

The Council has underway works in thirteen municipalities of the island for a value of twenty million euros. The island president, Pedro Martin, points out that these works are part of the Municipal Cooperation Plan 2018-2021, endowed with 48 million euros. It contemplates investments for relevant projects throughout the Island.

Is about large-scale initiatives that are strategic for the socio-economic development of the municipalities involved and which are related to sanitation and water purification, the improvement of the sewerage network, the expansion of tanks and drinking water distribution branches, the conditioning of municipal buildings and sports infrastructures, among other equipment.

The municipalities in which it is intervening right now are Adeje, Arona, Granadilla, Güímar, La Matanza de Acentejo, Los Realejos, San Miguel de Abona, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Santa Úrsula, Santiago del Teide, Los Silos, Vilaflor and El Sauzal. In the latter case, one of the leftovers for a global amount of 734,683 euros has already been completed and there is another that is currently underway.

“No political color”

The island president, Pedro Martín, emphasizes that “of these thirteen municipalities, in nine the PSOE does not govern, but other parties.” He insists on the idea that “62% of the Cabildo’s investment in a total of fifteen works goes to municipalities in which the PSOE does not govern.” Martín values it as “very surprising” that the opposition wants to transfer to the citizens of Tenerife the “False” message that the Island Council favors some municipalities to the detriment of others. Martín insists that the Insular Corporation “guarantees the balance of its investments in Tenerife, as has been demonstrated in the distribution of the items for employment and social action, which have been carried out in accordance with the Fecam criteria.” The president recalls that “these Municipal Cooperation actions are just one example of the backbone of the Island that the Cabildo has started in this mandate and that prioritizes works where they are most necessary without taking into account other types of assessments.”

Investor equilibrium

For his part, the island councilor for Municipal Cooperation and Housing, Zebenzui Chinea, points out that “This investment balance also prevails in the Priority Works Plan.” It has been approved this year for municipalities with less than 20,000 inhabitants and represents a total investment of 3.3 million euros. 17 small municipalities benefit from this plan under the criteria of the population. These are Buenavista del Norte, Arafo, Arico, Garachico, Fasnia, La Guancha, La Matanza, El Rosario, San Juan de la Rambla, Santa Úrsula, Santiago del Teide, Los Silos, El Tanque, El Sauzal, Tegueste, La Victoria de Acentejo and Vilaflor.

The island councilor explains that this program is aimed at “economic and administrative cooperation with the municipalities for the drafting of projects, direction and execution of works related to the operation of public services.”

The projects presented range from the rehabilitation of damaged infrastructures to the improvement of supply networks.o and lighting systems, although the initiatives promoted to adapt cemeteries to current regulations stand out.
