Interurban Transport of Tenerife (TITSA) is set to introduce 15-metre double-decker buses with 110 seats on routes connecting Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Los Cristianos, Adeje, Los Realejos, and Candelaria in 2026, in response to the significant demand for these services.

The president of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, disclosed this Monday at a press briefing the acquisition of 70 double-decker buses for long-distance routes at a cost of 25 million euros, which are expected to begin operations in the first quarter of 2026. Additionally, 104 more buses will be included in April and will become operational throughout the year.

During the presentation of TITSA’s passenger statistics for 2024 and ongoing developments in public transport, Dávila highlighted that the year 2024 concluded with more than 82 million passengers, signifying an increase of nearly 40 million compared to when transport was not free.

“This is a substantial figure, and it relates not only to the continuation of free public transport but also to enhancements in service quality,” remarked the president, who noted that 2024 is projected to welcome an additional 12 million passengers compared to the preceding year, marking an 18% rise.

In this year alone, 66 new drivers will join TITSA, the president reported, emphasising that the public company is executing 500 additional daily services since the expansion of the free transport initiative and the transition of CC into leadership at the Tenerife Cabildo.

The Minister of Mobility for the Cabildo of Tenerife, Eulalia García, stated that the intention behind acquiring new buses is to cater to the high-demand long-distance routes, specifically lines 110, 112, 108, and 122.

The new buses to be deployed will be hybrid, thereby augmenting the proportion of these environmentally friendly vehicles in TITSA’s fleet, which currently consists of 320 buses, with 30% being hybrid models.
