“Achieving objectives” is the slogan of the promotional initiative that Santiago del Teide will undertake at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) from the 22nd to the 26th (from Wednesday to Sunday of next week), at the Madrid Fair Institution (Ifema). It is touted as the only destination in Europe that has successfully certified compliance with 14 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a feat that “positions Santiago del Teide as a leader in sustainability“.

Emilio Navarro, the mayor, emphasised this “achievement” realised through the implementation of “a bold and ambitious strategy focused on genuine sustainability within the municipality.” The councillor asserted that “this not only establishes us as a benchmark for sustainability in tourism but also has a direct economic impact on the destination as one of the municipalities in the Canary Islands with the highest tourist expenditure.”

The Councillor for Tourism, Luz Goretti Gorrín, noted that the “Achieving Objectives” campaign highlights Santiago del Teide’s dedication to sustainability and the importance of public-private collaboration.

The campaign “demonstrates certification in 14 SDGs, an accomplishment attained by working collaboratively with the professionals and businesses within our municipal tourism sector, thanks to the engagement of our residents,” Gorrín added.

Years of dedication

As per the mayor’s remarks, the Tourism councillor asserted that this initiative is the culmination of “the tourism positioning strategy we put in place a few years ago, which is now yielding this vital recognition for the municipality.”

The municipal administration, led by Emilio Navarro, confirms that Santiago del Teide continues to progress with community support and ongoing collaboration with the private sector “to enhance the well-being and development of its residents and visitors.” With sustainability as a primary focus, “Santiago del Teide not only safeguards its natural and cultural heritage but also presents itself globally as a responsible tourist destination, aligned with the goals of the 2030 Agenda.”
