The City Council of La Laguna has declared the closure of the bathing zones at Bajamar, Jover, and Punta del Hidalgo where the red flag is flying due to unfavourable sea conditions. This precautionary measure has been taken in response to coastal phenomena impacting the municipality’s shoreline, amidst the active pre-alert currently in place across the Canary Islands.

According to the council, the prevailing sea conditions necessitate the need to exercise utmost caution along the entire coastal stretch of La Laguna. Furthermore, a series of recommendations has been issued to residents to ensure their safety:

  • Avoid lingering near areas where waves are crashing.
  • Do not take unnecessary risks by attempting to photograph or video near the sea.
  • Steer clear of fishing in hazardous zones.

This closure decision coincides with the pre-alert issued by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands. In the archipelago, wave heights of up to three metres are expected, along with northeast winds gusting up to 49 kilometres per hour and northwest swells potentially reaching 2.5 metres. This advisory affects various coastal regions, including the northern and eastern coastlines of Tenerife.

The City Council of La Laguna implores the public to adhere to safety recommendations and avoid perilous situations in coastal areas. Authorities are closely monitoring the progression of the meteorological event to implement necessary measures to ensure the safety of the community.
