The sea destroys the improvement of the Las Bajas road after 100,000 euros of investment

The situation in the town of Las Bajas, on the coast of Güímar, it gets complicated as the days go by. The access road to the place it is partially affected due to the action of the sea. With this, the work carried out by the Güímar City Council to improve the conditions of this road that connects El Puertito de Güímar and La Caleta through the hamlet was partially destroyed.

Neighbors, evicted since last May, express their discomfort at this situation but, at the same time, they assure that the sea usually causes this damage “once or twice a year.” In their public communications, those affected by Las Bajas expose this fact as the most important problem for the area, but not the risk of detachment from the slope, which is why they had to abandon their homes.

«We have no problem of detachment, only with the sea that breaks the track from time to time. But Airam Puerta told us they would build a dam. Where is? What is the problem so that we cannot return to our homes? “, Says the neighborhood spokesperson.

Neighbors say that sea shocks cause damage “once or twice a year”

The work Provisional conditioning of the Camino Las Bajas for the access of machinery to the work that is carried out to secure the slope has a cost of 104,065 euros, as recorded in the file and has been made public by the Popular Party (PP). An amount that has not yet been paid by the Consistory, as well as the extra cost of repairing the slope, as indicated by the municipal government.

The repair of the slope was contracted for 342,865 euros. The work certifications presented They already exceed 1.1 million and it is estimated that the final extra cost will exceed one and a half million euros. The works are paralyzed by order of the mayor, Gustavo Pérez, due to this extra cost.

Execution order

In addition, the General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea sent the residents, on November 12, an execution order for the eviction and demolition of these homes. An office in which it is assured to proceed “to the compulsory and subsidiary execution of the resolution of possession recovery” of the space of maritime-terrestrial public domain in this enclave, “by means of the demolition and removal of its remains with replacement of the land at its disposal. primitive state ».

The response of those affected by Las Bajas is that they will work to prevent the demolition of their homes. To do this, the Canary Islands Platform for those Affected by the Coastal Law announced that it will take different legal actions before the Administrative Litigation Court.
