The City Council of The Lagoon and the Cabildo of Tenerife have extended their agreement for the provision of urban public transport services within the municipality, which is managed by the public firm Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife (Titsa). The financial commitment of this renewed agreement totals 18,901,918 euros for the forthcoming five years, remaining valid until 2029.

A notable enhancement is the introduction of line 218, which will operate in conjunction with line 217 in the opposite direction, reducing travel durations by approximately 10 minutes.

At present, line 217 serves as a connection from the La Laguna Interchange to San Miguel de Geneto, El Gramal, Los Andenes, El Cardonal, Patrona de Canarias, and the Hospital Universitario de Canarias (HUC), completing a circular journey lasting around 55 minutes.

The new line will facilitate the return journey to the Interchange from the HUC via the TF-5, consequently streamlining travel efficiency.

The urban transport service will now encompass 15 lines, resulting in 84,171 journeys per year and covering a cumulative distance of 974,655 kilometres with a fleet comprising 23 vehicles and a staff of 55 drivers, with an additional 8 drivers expected to join shortly.

Furthermore, enhancements have been implemented regarding the frequency of lines 217, 218, 219, 253, and 260. These upgrades incorporate an increase of 15% on weekdays and 150% on weekends to accommodate rising demand and enhance punctuality.

The agreement was unveiled during a press briefing conducted by the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility, Domingo Galván; the Minister of Mobility of the Tenerife Cabildo, Eulalia García; the Chief Executive Officer of Titsa, Vicky Padilla; and the company’s Director of Operations, Ambrosio Hernández. They emphasised their commitment to sustainable mobility and the efficient connectivity of the municipality during the event.
