Archaeologists Discover Eight Ancient Burials at Tenerife’s Historic Convent Site

The General Directorate of Culture and Cultural Heritage, in partnership with the La Orotava City Council, is facilitating a third archaeological dig in the vicinity of the Church of San Francisco. The objective is to uncover the history of the former Franciscan convent of San Lorenzo. This excavation has led to the discovery of eight individuals within various graves linked to interments that occurred at this sacred site prior to the devastating fire of 1801, which ravaged a substantial portion of the property.
