SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 13th Jan (EUROPA PRESS) –

A father saved the life of his newborn baby during the early hours of Friday, 3rd January, thanks to the telecare support provided by Betsy Álvarez, the coordinating doctor, and Alexis Hernández, nurse coordinator of the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), which operates under the public company Management of Services for Health and Safety in the Canary Islands, part of the Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands Government.

The incident, revealed on Monday, occurred at 1:50 a.m. when the Emergency and Security Coordinating Centre (CECOES) 112 of the Canary Islands Government received a call requesting assistance for a woman who was in labour at a residence in San Isidro, within the municipality of Granadilla de Abona in Tenerife.

At the moment when the father raised the alarm, the mother, who was at full term, was in the expulsive phase of a breech delivery.

After gathering the essential information, the medical personnel in the Tenerife emergency room provided crucial instructions for the delivery process, confirming that the child was in respiratory arrest.

The father then undertook resuscitation efforts, successfully reversing the situation thanks to the guidance given via telephone by the coordinating nurse, who praised the “composure and calmness” demonstrated by the parent throughout the ordeal, as stated by 112.

A few moments later, the Local Police of Granadilla de Abona arrived at the scene, along with two advanced life support ambulances from the SUC, one of which was equipped for medical emergencies.

The personnel from both emergency resources attended to the newborn and the mother, proceeding to cut the umbilical cord.

Additionally, the health staff kept the Pediatrics and Gynecology units at the Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria University Hospital informed of the condition of both mother and child throughout the ambulance transfer, ensuring they were monitored at all times, and both were transported in stable condition.
