Tenerife Sur Airport Resumes Operations After 22 Flight Diversions

Tenerife South airport has resumed operations following a temporary halt caused by a small aircraft blocking the runway during its landing manoeuvre. This incident resulted in the diversion of 22 flights to Tenerife North, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote, as reported by AENA to EFE.

According to Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA), around 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, a small aircraft was obstructing the runway at Tenerife South airport during its landing manoeuvre.

This obstruction caused the airport to be temporarily non-operational while efforts were made to remove the aircraft, leading to the diversion of scheduled flights during this time.

In particular, flights from Seville, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Vienna, Norwich, Edinburgh, Dublin, London Gatwick, London Stansted, Amsterdam, Wroclaw, Budapest, and Keflavik were among those affected and diverted to Tenerife North, Gran Canaria, and Lanzarote airports.

AENA sources reported that at approximately 7:30 p.m., the blocked aircraft was successfully removed and the runway was reinstated to operational status.
