Tenerife South Airport Paralyses as Blocked Plane Diverts 17 Flights

A minimum of 17 flights necessary were rerouted to different airports in the Canary Islands following the suspension of operations at Tenerife South. This was caused by a plane being stuck in the middle of the runway after landing.

The Air Controllers’ account on the social network for the Canary Islands reported “the surge” of diverted flights.

In total, 11 flights were redirected to Tenerife North, five to Gran Canaria, and one to Fuerteventura, with air traffic controllers mentioning that these actions were taken for safety reasons.

Ultimately, the runway has reopened for operations, and air traffic has been reinstated at Tenerife South.
