This Thursday, the Tenerife Cabildo reminded the public about the prohibition on accessing areas impacted by the devastating fire of 2023 due to the potential hazards of falling trees and landslides.
This situation could worsen with the wind pre-alert, which will commence at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, Friday. This alert has been issued by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, based on forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency and other relevant sources.
Forecasts indicate winds coming from the southeast at an average speed of 20-40 km/h, which may lead to localised accelerations with possible gusts reaching or exceeding 50-70 km/h, as noted by the island authority in a statement.
The wind conditions will impact the municipalities of Arona, Adeje, Guía de Isora, Santiago del Teide, Tegueste, as well as the higher regions and midlands of Santa Úrsula, La Victoria, La Matanza, El Sauzal, and Tacoronte, including the northern slope of La Laguna and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
It is emphasised that the importance of refraining from entering the restricted zones affected by the significant fire of 2023, including the slopes of Tigaiga and Santa Úrsula, and areas where the radiata pine has been impacted by the fire in the central part of La Orotava Valley, the El Rayo track extending from La Victoria to Santa Úrsula, the El Rincón to El Rayo track section, and the Hoya del Abade recreational area.
Additionally, residents are urged to exercise extreme caution in mountain areas accessible to traffic and to refrain from lighting fires outside the designated areas approved for such activities, in order to prevent forest fires.
