This Saturday, January 4, the Arona City Council will launch ‘Taste Arona’, a culinary and agricultural initiative that will provide an opportunity to experience gastronomic demonstrations and tastings from local restaurants, bars, and cafes at the Arona Farmer’s Market in the San Lorenzo Valley.

The opening tasting will be presented by Bar Néstor, showcasing its award-winning dishes from the 2024 ‘Sabores del Valle’ Tapa Route, coinciding with the ‘Afternoon of Chestnuts, Sweets and Wines’. The unique aspect of this culinary showcase is that all participating venues had to incorporate chestnuts and/or wine into their dishes.

Bar Néstor’s complimentary menu, available from 10:00 a.m., will feature ‘Pez Castañero’ (fish with onions and chestnuts) and ‘Pata Chisposa’ (roasted leg with coriander and chestnut vinaigrette), which clinched the second and third prizes in the related Tapa Route contest. Additionally, there will be ‘Mousse Fresco’ and ‘Sangría Loca’.

Dácil León has noted that renowned chefs such as Diego Schattenhofer and Alejandro Bello frequently assist in promoting the Municipal Market through showcooking and tastings, achieving Michelin Star and Sol Repsol recognition. He emphasised that ‘Saborea Arona’ has developed due to several local restaurants in Valle San Lorenzo choosing to partake in the effort to enhance the Farmer’s Market, thereby providing more opportunities to sample the exquisite offerings of its famed Tapa Route, which has been a showcase for local bars and cafes’ creativity for many years.

The market is open at its primary location in Valle San Lorenzo on Fridays and Saturdays, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., offering secure parking, and allows purchases of fruits, vegetables, flowers, cheeses, honey, pastries, meat products, and crafts, all sold directly by the producers, without intermediaries. Moreover, on two alternating Thursdays each month, it extends its offerings to the Plaza de la Pescadora along the Paseo Marítimo de Los Cristianos, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
