The Cabildo is set to invest 2.1 million euros in 2025 as subsidies for the Tenerife wine industry, with the objective of “alleviating production losses resulting from the drought.” The Minister for the Primary Sector, Valentín González, clarifies that “this assistance is the outcome of an urgent and extraordinary budget adjustment, intended to financially aid Tenerife winegrowers in compensating for income losses stemming from the decline in wine production in the current harvest, due to the drought that has afflicted the Tenerife countryside in recent years.”
The recipients of this assistance will include all active winegrowers in Tenerife (both individuals and corporate entities) who manage wine-producing activities. The amount awarded to each producer will be calculated proportionally and will assist in covering part of the production costs incurred from the quantity of kilos of grapes not harvested (decrease in production) for the current season, providing 1,053 euros per kilo of grapes, alongside a dependent amount related to the area reported in 2024, amounting to 300 hectares. The aid granted to each beneficiary shall not surpass the maximum limit of 10,000 euros.
González notes that “to allocate this aid effectively, considering the regions most impacted by the weather conditions, we have facilitated an agreement with the Regulatory Councils of Tenerife, which allows them to act as collaborating entities of the Cabildo in order to distribute these subsidies equitably among the island’s grape producers.”
The councillor underscores that “for the Cabildo, it is crucial to support wine farms, whose production has been severely affected by the prolonged drought.”
