Tenerife’s Cabildo Commits €1.6 Million to Preserve Historical Treasures

The Cabildo of Tenerife has allocated 1.6 million euros in grants to local councils for the preservation of Historical Heritage, part of the Insular Historical Heritage Programme 2023-2027.

In a recent announcement, the insular director of the area, Isabel de Porquen, detailed that this programme encompasses two primary actions concerning subsidies for the City Councils.

The first pertains to the restoration of culturally valuable assets, while the second focuses on the creation and endorsement of special plans aimed at safeguarding historical complexes, alongside municipal lists of cultural heritage assets.

“The aim of these initiatives is to ensure the preservation, restoration, and preparation of essential tools such as Catalogues and Special Plans for the Protection of Historical Sites, as well as to boost sectors like tourism,” she stated.

Furthermore, she mentioned that these efforts will “utilise certain appealing assets for the visitors that Tenerife attracts, create job opportunities by engaging a substantial number of individuals in various sectors, including construction, and foster economic growth across different areas of the island while promoting sustainability by preserving the heritage elements that characterise and enhance the environmental value of both urban and rural landscapes”.

rehabilitation of the old laundries to the tune of 100,270.20 euros, to La Orotava City Council for the restoration of the Josefina Mill for an amount of 280,000.00 euros, and to Adeje City Council for improvements to the former Franciscan Convent of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Saint Paul, amounting to 73,289.41 euros.

As for the other line of action, the Cabildo’s financial support has been directed towards the funding and management of the Special Plans for the Protection of Historical Sites.

Additionally, the co-financing of the Special Protection Plans for the historical areas of Guía de Isora (168,538.86 euros) and Chirche and Aripe (93,497.53 euros), located within the same municipality, has been approved.

Moreover, the Los Silos City Council has also received funds for the creation of the municipal catalogue, totalling 58,500.00 euros. It is noteworthy that at the close of the previous year, the majority of such subsidies were allocated, pertaining to 17 catalogues from fifteen City Councils.
