The PIT: A Showcase of Inclusive Excellence

Over 400 young individuals from third sector organisations involved in the realm of disability had the opportunity to enjoy the attractions and activities at the PIT (Children’s Park Tenerife), engaging in an entire morning filled with fun and learning.

The island’s councillor for Social Action, Águeda Fumero, highlights: “We aim to create a space where participants can explore a variety of experiences during their visit to the Fairgrounds, promoting inclusion.”

With this goal in mind, the Island Council adopts a comprehensive approach, incorporating several viewpoints from various political sectors, as explained by the councillor, who adds, “This way, we will help forge a more equitable society, ensuring equal opportunities for all individuals and safeguarding access to rights, including the right to inclusive leisure.”

‘The route of the senses’ at the PIT

The Public Society Sinpromi, under the Social Action division of the Cabildo of Tenerife, presents The route of the senses, a stand at the PIT designed to raise awareness regarding disability. Manuel Fernández mentioned: “This initiative aims to allow participants to step into the shoes of individuals with diverse disabilities, highlighting the significance of equal opportunities in our society.”

The children experienced a unique and highly enjoyable day, unveiling some of the new features of this edition, including an activity on the terrace featuring a large pedal car circuit and the hosting of 65 live performances.

Until January 5

PIT 2024, celebrating its thirty-third anniversary, will provide attractions and games suitable for the entire family. It will remain open until January 5, 2025, across the full expanse of the Tenerife Fairgrounds. More than 18,000 square metres have been allocated to accommodate 35 distinct play areas, offering recreational, physical, and educational activities that strike a balance between enjoyment and values. The PIT also pays homage to sports, coinciding with the Olympic year.

Schedule

On December 26 (today), 27, 28, 29, and 30, the opening hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on the 31st from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the same applies for January 1. From January 2 to 4, the PIT will welcome visitors from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and finally, on January 5, it will open between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. General admission is priced at 10 euros, while large families will pay 5 euros.

We want to move

The “We Want to Move” campaign at the PIT advocates for “everyone’s peace of mind” through a “simple” message: inclusive activities for all children. The group representing disability raises the question of “Will everyone indeed be able to partake?” They conclude by stating: “We would appreciate it if the Council could provide clearer information.”
