The Local Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, specifically the Attestados group, are set to receive new digital tools for the virtual reconstruction and analysis of road incidents. This technology will be accompanied by ongoing training for the officers within the group, aimed at modernising the documentation process and enhancing the insights derived from their daily operations.
In this instance, the newly acquired software includes Virtual Crash and Virtual Plan, which have necessitated an investment of nearly 15,000 euros. These tools are already employed by both the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) and the Civil Guard. The Councillor for Security and Emergencies of the Capital City Council, Gladis de León, emphasised that this purchase “forms part of our ongoing efforts to modernise the management of procedures and work undertaken by the Local Police, particularly the group responsible for generating a considerable volume of crucial reports for citizens, businesses or institutions involved in road safety.” Both software applications are well-regarded for their accuracy in simulating traffic accidents and in creating necessary diagrams to support police analysis of incidents.
Indeed, in these specialised police operations, the reconstruction of traffic accidents is vital for comprehending the causes and behaviours surrounding such events. These tools provide a comprehensive range of features to analyse, simulate, and illustrate various collision and accident scenarios, which are deemed essential in today’s context.
Training
In addition to the acquisition of these programmes, up to three training sessions are scheduled to ensure that Attestados agents are proficient in their application, each lasting 12 hours and catering to a total of ten police officers.
With Virtual Crash, officers can obtain precise simulations of collisions and accidents, from vehicle impacts to incidents involving pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. Furthermore, it equips the reconstruction team with the ability to meticulously analyse the dynamics of such intricate and varied occurrences.
Another benefit is the enhancement of the importation of measurements and aerial images, allowing for a precise and detailed reconstruction of the accident scene. It also enables the creation of three-dimensional models of incidents, which aids investigators in better understanding the sequence of events. Currently, traffic congestion management has significantly improved, and with these new tools, more thorough studies can be conducted on the speeds of those involved in traffic incidents, applying physical and mathematical principles. Moreover, with the use of Virtual Plan, it will be possible to formulate hypotheses regarding previously unexplored causes of accidents and, based on these models, suggest improvements or conclusions on how to prevent many incidents, thereby enhancing road safety within the municipality.
