The Santa Cruz City Council has formalised a partnership agreement with the Cabildo to enhance the infrastructure and facilities of the El Mayorazgo industrial estate. This initiative, which involves an investment of 3,553,503 euros, will receive partial funding from the island corporation, contributing up to one million euros. The remaining funds will be covered by the city council through the 2025-2026 budgets.
This agreement is part of the Actions in the Industrial Estates of the Island of Tenerife programme, which is endorsed by the Ministry of Industry to modernise and improve the island’s industrial estates, in accordance with the sustainable development principles established by the European Union and the Strategy for Industrial Development of the Canary Islands.
El Mayorazgo has been identified for this programme due to its urgent need for redevelopment and modernisation. The proposed initiatives include enhancements to the road surface and lighting, the installation of energy-efficient lighting, the creation of parking facilities, and the potential implementation of electric vehicle charging points, as well as the use of recycled asphalt and solar panels, among other improvements. The streets earmarked for these enhancements include Jesús Hernández Guzmán, Carmen Goya Hernández, and Ascend del Mayorazgo.
The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, confirmed yesterday that “this agreement will not only upgrade the industrial estate’s infrastructure but will also foster a more attractive and sustainable environment for businesses, promoting growth and competitiveness within the industrial sector of our municipality and, by extension, across the Island.”
Furthermore, the Councilor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, highlighted the significance of this programme for the local economic development. “This is indeed positive news as the enhancement of industrial estates is crucial for Tenerife’s economic future, particularly for Santa Cruz.”
The mayor further noted that “this partnership will enable us to modernise El Mayorazgo, create jobs, and attract investment, which is always essential for the city’s growth.”
The programme aims to furnish industrial estates with the necessary infrastructure to bolster their competitiveness, encourage business development, and facilitate the establishment of new enterprises. Moreover, these infrastructures are designed to be environmentally sustainable, promoting the use of renewable energy and the principles of a circular economy, in alignment with the sustainability objectives that inform both European and local policies.
