The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, along with the Festival councillor, Dailos González, and the president of the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (Fauca), Abbas Moujir, officially opened the Plaza de la Navidad yesterday. This designated area within the Plaza del Cristo will host live musical performances, food and beverage stalls celebrating the festive season, and a variety of activities suitable for all age groups, including a skating tennis court, until January 5. The performance by the group Los Sabandeños marked the highlight of this inaugural day.

Luis Yeray Gutiérrez encouraged locals to “make the most of this recreational space, which has previously showcased its potential to be an enjoyable venue for families, and one of the most popular Christmas spots in the municipality due to its diverse entertainment options and culinary offerings.” The Festival Councillor elaborated that there will be musical acts on the stage set up within the venue throughout the Christmas season, featuring artists such as Laritza Bacallao, Chago Melián, Shaila Dúrcal, Fran Baraja, Iván Quintana, and groups like Los Cantadores and Achamán, as well as hosting a grand celebration to bid farewell to 2024 and welcome 2025.

Besides the ice rink and performances, there are gastronomic areas featuring food trucks, as well as a designated children’s area with inflatable castles and play zones, among other activities. Additionally, there will be a specific market running from January 2 to 4, where artisans, pastry chefs, and various professionals from the Island will participate.

The only dates on which the Christmas Plaza will remain closed to the public are December 25 and January 1, both of which are public holidays. Details regarding opening and closing times will be shared on the social media channels of the City Council and the Plaza de la Navidad in La Laguna.
