The insular Ministry of the Primary Sector has authorised a collaborative agreement with the Fasnia City Council aimed at establishing a Farmer’s Market within the municipality, which will be situated in the coastal locality of Los Roques.
The area councillor, Valentín González Évora, elucidates that this initiative intends to provide local producers and consumers with “a focal point for the sale of fresh produce.” He underscores the positive environmental impact of this venture, noting that “it will enhance the local economy, promote local products, and invigorate the southeastern region of the Island,” particularly from the viewpoint of the prevalent rural landscape.
The total budget allocated for this project is 4,267,487 euros, of which the Cabildo of Tenerife will fund 3,167,487 over two annual payments, while the Government of the Canary Islands will contribute 1,100.00 euros.
The advisor for the Primary Sector at the insular Corporation emphasises that “the infrastructure is positioned in a strategic location, very close to the Southern Highway.” Valentín González argues that, “thanks to this agreement, we will not only have the Farmer’s Market but also a facility for the Agrarian Extension Agency, featuring island ownership, a space for agricultural training, local product promotion, innovation, and an information office for the Cabildo.
González Évora asserts that “this project embodies a steadfast commitment to revitalising Tenerife’s primary sector, empowering small-scale farmers and bridging the rural economy with local consumers, influenced by sustainable and equitable development standards across the Island.”
In November of the previous year, the regional Executive declared an investment of 1.1 million euros for the construction of the Los Roques Farmer’s Market. This facility will consist of a main floor housing an office area for the Agrarian Extension Agency of the region, complete with toilets, a meeting space, an office, and an outdoor terrace.
The ground floor will be allocated as a market area, which will include an exhibition and tasting room, a management office, an accessible toilet, and another area for customer service. The basement (level -1) will accommodate 23 sales positions; level -2 will house the toilets, waste storage areas, and additional storage, with further space located on levels -3 and -4.
