El Toscal is set to feature the first vertical parking facility in the municipality, which will comprise 180 parking slots and will be established on the site that the city council acquired on La Rosa Street to address the shortage of spaces resulting from the ongoing rehabilitation work in this central neighbourhood.

To achieve this, the local governing body, composed of the Canarian Coalition (CC) and the Popular Party (PP), has proposed a distinctive amendment to the corporation’s general budget plan for 2025, which includes a transfer aimed at the Municipal Housing sector for financing additional initiatives related to parking, such as project drafting, work management, and construction.

A total of 500,000 euros will be earmarked for the establishment of new parking facilities in El Toscal, facilitated by an alteration to the general budget. The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez (CC), remarked yesterday that “the aim is to allocate resources dedicated to enhancing parking within the city. Thus, the amendment is centred on creating additional parking spaces, as well as those that will be built vertically following the specific amendment of the General Urban Planning Plan (PGO), which we anticipate will be ready by April 2025. Additionally, those will be municipal areas that can serve as public parking facilities.”

The capital’s councillor further added that “these initiatives align with the forthcoming parking master plan, which we will unveil shortly, addressing the most urgent needs in this area, including not only the development of new spaces but also the regulation of existing ones.”

Furthermore, the first deputy mayor and councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife (PP), clarified that “the amendment primarily targets 70 new spaces in El Toscal, with the goal of constructing a vertical parking facility once the Building Ordinance is approved next June, which will accommodate approximately 180 spaces.”

In the meantime, the Councillor for the Treasury, José Alberto Díaz Estébanez (CC), highlighted yesterday that “the amendment enhances the capacity of a particular strategic line concerning the planning, construction, and management of urban parking, providing it with a significant amount that is not limiting, which may be extended in 2025 or subsequent years to establish surface, underground, or vertical parking in the shortest timeframe possible.”
