PSOE Challenges Rosa Dávila’s Claims on Playa Jardín Pollution: “She’s Lost Her Composure”

Recently, there has been a flurry of accusations exchanged between the PSOE in the Cabildo of Tenerife and the president of the island corporation, Rosa Dávila, concerning the pollution that has persisted for several months at Playa Jardín in Puerto de la Cruz. The socialist party announced on Tuesday that they would initiate legal proceedings due to the lack of transparency related to the file concerning the situation on this beach, which has remained closed since July. In response, Dávila accused, without any evidence, the PSOE and Pedro Martín, the former president of the Cabildo, of having permitted individuals to swim in “filth” during the last legislative term while, according to her, there were “health data and analyses that advised against it.”

Following these allegations, the socialist group in the Cabildo requested that Dávila “immediately” rectify her statements and reminded her that the only Public Health report mandating the closure of the beach is from June of this year, while Rosa Dávila was leading the corporation. The PSOE contended that earlier reports indicated that the water quality was fit for public bathing.

The PSOE also highlighted that it was the socialists who initiated the drafting of the project aimed at repairing the emissary.

The PSOE further asserts that, despite the president’s denial regarding the concealment of the repair works file for Playa Jardín, the Socialist group “had to file complaints with the Common Council and the Transparency Commissioner, in addition to putting forward a motion in full, so that the file was made available this morning [Wednesday],” just prior to a press conference held by the PSOE.

The closure of Playa Jardín has persisted for approximately five months “without the island government providing information to the opposition,” the Socialist group remarked.

The president of the Socialist group, Pedro Martín, cautioned Rosa Dávila that “we socialists can substantiate our claims and we expect her to validate her assertions.”

The Socialist group maintains that Rosa Dávila’s “lack of diligence, ignorance, and falsehoods have been prevalent throughout her term, but in this instance, and given the official information to counter it, she has reached an intolerable limit, having turned the presidency of the Cabildo into a facility for generating deception, solely to disguise her ineffectiveness and the decline in the Cabildo’s management across various sectors.”

“I believe that Mrs. Rosa Dávila has lost her composure. She is unaccustomed to not receiving adulation and when confronted with the truth, she becomes displeased,” Pedro Martín asserted in a video released by the PSOE. “I challenge you to locate any document that substantiates our alleged permission for bathing when it was inadvisable at Playa Jardín. You will not find such evidence because it does not exist, and you are not being truthful,” Martín challenged her.

Lastly, the former president of the Cabildo during the last legislative term concluded by accusing Dávila of conducting a “perpetual advertising campaign” instead of “taking responsibility.” As this transpires, she declared, she would contend with a Socialist Party that demands she lead effectively as president rather than fabricate accusations against the PSOE. If there are any, they should be substantiated with documentation,” he stated.
