PSOE to Take Legal Action Against CC-PP Over Playa Jardín Reporting Negligence

The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Tenerife disclosed yesterday their intent to initiate legal proceedings against the island administration (CC-PP), led by Rosa Dávila, for infringing upon their rights due to the “systematic concealment” of the documentation relating to Playa Jardín, in Puerto de la Cruz, where swimming has been discouraged for the past five months owing to faecal discharges, as well as the Corporation’s “inaction” regarding this issue. Furthermore, they have lodged complaints with the Common Deputy and the Transparency Commission of the Canary Islands.

The closure of Playa Jardín was cited as one of the reasons for presenting a motion of no confidence against the then-mayor, socialist Marco González, whilst Rosa Dávila announced on August 11 an emergency repair of the emissary within 48 hours to enable its reopening to the public, “a task about which there has been no further information,” states the PSOE. Meanwhile, residents of Punta Brava have been “accused” of being the source of the pollution without any substantiating evidence. The fact remains that, as the year draws to a close, the beach remains closed (with swimming discouraged) and the Cabildo obstructs the access of the primary opposition group to the documentation,” the socialists critiqued.

The PSOE has sought full access to the documentation on five occasions. The latest request, made on December 15, was once again denied, prompting them to announce yesterday that they would pursue legal measures to ensure their right of access, “which is being blatantly breached,” declared the group president, Pedro Martin.

“Playa Jardín was shut many months ago. Rosa Dávila claimed that it would be repaired promptly, yet the reality is that it remains closed,” Martin recalls, who also criticises the CC-PP administration for “not providing any clarification regarding this situation. We have repeatedly asked for information and have received nothing, neither as the majority group in the Cabildo, which is the PSOE, nor for the local residents, who are witnessing the failure to uphold that promise.
