Santa Cruz is set to rejuvenate the retail sectors of La Rambla and the Salamanca neighbourhood through a transformation initiative detailed by the Development Society within the Canary Islands Intelligent Commercial Destination programme. The Directorate General of Commerce and Consumption of the Government of the Canary Islands has approved a grant amounting to 479,000 euros for this endeavour. This information was revealed yesterday by the city’s mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez (CC), who articulated that “through a range of initiatives, we aim to enhance the competitiveness of these shopping areas and draw in more customers and tourists, thereby improving their commercial appeal and environmental sustainability.”
Carmen Pérez, the Chief Executive Officer of the Development Society, added that “the initiative aims to revitalise the La Rambla and Salamanca neighbourhoods by undertaking a thorough analysis of the retail outlets, crafting an operational strategy, reactivating vacant premises, establishing commercial routes, and providing tailored support for the digitalisation of small enterprises.” She emphasised that “these measures will empower the commercial landscape of these parts of the city.”
“This plan is scheduled for implementation in 2025 and will incorporate a variety of actions to invigorate these areas, along with the establishment of a Technical Monitoring Office,” Pérez noted. She concluded that “through a holistic approach, we aim to enhance competitiveness and attract a greater number of clients and tourists.”
The Canary Islands Smart Commercial Destination is a scheme introduced by the Directorate General of Commerce and Consumption of the Government of the Canary Islands that funds projects from public entities aimed at transforming the commercial sector on the Islands towards an intelligent commercial destination.
