The Granadilla de Abona City Council has commissioned the preparation of the fundamental and execution project for the forthcoming cultural centre in El Médano, with a budget nearing 30,000 euros and a timeframe of three months. The facility will be situated in a prime location, specifically within the pedestrian zone of Carmen Nóbrega, El Confital, and Francisco Cruz streets, as announced yesterday by the City Council.
The initiative includes the demolition of the existing building that currently accommodates the music school, followed by the construction of a new three-storey structure, featuring study areas, classrooms for various activities, as well as versatile rooms for theatrical performances, conferences, exhibitions, and small concerts.
The Councillor for Municipal Public Works and Services, Marcos Antonio Rodríguez (PP), emphasised yesterday that this cultural centre will address the lack of cultural facilities in this region. He added that the construction will be carried out “in line with sustainability principles through the establishment of environmental protection zones, planting of trees, creation of garden spaces, and installation of photovoltaic systems.”
Meanwhile, the Councillor for Culture, Francisco Socas (PSOE), stated that the building “will meet a legitimate demand from the population in this segment of the municipality due to the absence of cultural facilities of this kind.”
This cultural asset, which has a projected municipal investment of 1.4 million euros, will be developed on a plot of 349 square metres, with 120 square metres dedicated to garden areas and parking. Additionally, there will be 160 square metres for a multifunctional room on the ground floor, alongside three multifunctional rooms and two classrooms for cultural activities on the first floor.
