The Santa Cruz City Council, through the Security Department, activated the Municipal Emergency Plan (PEMU) yesterday due to a warning. Consequently, all outdoor municipal activities have been cancelled in light of the wind alert issued by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government, which has been updated today to maximum alert.

This cessation of activities includes the Rastro event scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, December 15. Plans for the Gastro Navidad Market taking place around Plaza de España have also been called off, which includes the concert planned for tonight in the port area.

The boroughs have similarly suspended their outdoor activities for the weekend, in line with the Municipal Emergency Plan activation. Furthermore, following PEMU directives, Las Mesas park has been secured.

From the Parks and Gardens division, the following wooded regions have been designated due to forecasts of strong winds. In García Sanabria Park, walkways along Doctor José Naveiras Street, as well as those in Sector 3 and 4 adjacent to the Swan Fountain, and the walk in Sector 8 have been marked. Additional areas including San Francisco Square, Plaza del Príncipe, the central zone of Leoncio Oramas Park, Secundino Delgado Park, La Estrella Park, Manuel Castañeda Park, and El Timple Park have also been identified.

This status will remain effective for the duration of the wind alert issued by the Canary Islands Government, hence it is advisable to adhere to the recommendations pertinent to this type of situation. These typically include avoiding unnecessary travel and paying heed to the guidance provided by authorities, while remaining informed through official channels and the media.

As is customary during weather alerts, citizens are urged to act responsibly and, whenever possible, avoid placing themselves in danger.

The Santacrucero City Council recommends following their Twitter accounts @CECOPALSC, @PoliciaLocalSC, and @ProteCivilSCTF for pertinent updates regarding incidents and self-protection. Additionally, the contact numbers to report any incidents are 092 and 112.
