CC demands 72 million euros for the «social needs» of Tenerife

The nationalist group in the Council request the redistribution of 72.6 million euros from the 2022 island budget «To attend to the social needs of Tenerife». The CC-PNC spokesperson, Carlos Alonso, has reported on the presentation of 110 amendments to the project, one to the whole that includes the return of the accounts. Alonso insists that “they do not respond to the real needs of the population. The situation on the island is critical and we do not see a response from the PSOE or Pedro Martín ».

Carlos Alonso has influenced the low execution of the investments of the IASS Social Health Infrastructure Plan, which has caused that “not a single new position” has been created and that the demand has increased to 7,100 people. Alonso points out: «Mr. Montero has resigned in the Government of the Canary Islands because he has not fulfilled the expectations in Dependency. Pedro Martin and Marián Franquet (Minister of Social Action) have not created a new place in two and a half years and have even halted works on some infrastructures. I wait for responsibilities to be clarified ».

Carlos Alonso It also considers “alarming” the reduction of 8.5 million euros in the area of Employment and Socioeconomic Development, 8.4 million in Innovation and 3.4 million in Sports. He takes stock: “The Cabildo is worse than two and a half years ago.”

He adds: “To all this we must add the lack of planning for the next few years.” He attributes this to not having maintained the Strategic Framework for Insular Development (MEDI), planned for the 2016-2025 time frame divided into two five-year periods. With five major axes and 36 programs.

Nominal grants

Alonso understands that This lack of planning is the origin of the «excessive increase in nominal subsidies to municipalities». Remember that in the last year of the CC government (2019) it was one million euros “and for emergencies.” In addition, he criticizes that of the 16 million granted now “by finger”, less than 20% are for non-socialist municipalities. In this sense, he reflects: «I ask Pedro Martín to redirect the situation because an imbalance is taking place in Tenerife. There are municipalities with a large population such as Santa Cruz or Arona that do not receive a single euro of these subsidies.

Among the keys to the nationalist rejection of the accounts for 2022 – they will be debated and probably approved in plenary session on the 22nd – is the “unjustified increase in current spending, from Chapter 2”. Alonso values that “it is almost 10 million euros, almost 11% more and is above the nominal growth of the budget and of the island economy.”

The CC leader sums up: «They spend more money but invest and mobilize the economy less. The Cabildo costs us all more, but they do less. From motor and promoter he has become a delivery man ».

The conclusion of Carlos Alonso is that “since the beginning of the current mandate of the PSOE and Ciudadanos, current spending has increased by more than 20 million euros (+ 25%), while the execution of investments has dropped significantly in all areas.”
