The Urban Planning Management of the Santa Cruz City Council has issued nearly one hundred construction permits so far this year, “demonstrating the vitality and growth of the capital of Tenerife in terms of urban development,” as stated by local authorities. These permits encompass a diverse range of initiatives, from the restoration of existing structures to the erection of new constructions and commercial refurbishments.

The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, underscored the significance of these initiatives for the city’s advancement: “Santa Cruz is dedicated to enhancing the economy across various sectors, and the construction industry is one that allows us to generate employment within the city due to the projects currently underway.” He emphasised that “Santa Cruz reasserts its dedication to the orderly and sustainable expansion of the city, aiming to create a more accessible, functional, and pleasant urban environment for its residents.”

The Urban Planning Councillor, Zaida González, explained that “this considerable number of permits issued illustrates the drive of the construction sector in the city, fostering employment and enhancing the quality of life for residents through the renewal and expansion of infrastructure.” She added that “these nearly one hundred permits involve not only the construction of new multi-storey buildings but also individual homes.”

Furthermore, the councillor praised the efforts of the Management to streamline and facilitate the permitting process while ensuring compliance with urban planning regulations: “From the Urban Planning Management, we continue to work tirelessly to make the process more accessible for developers and citizens who wish to undertake their projects.”

González also acknowledged that “the activity generated by these permits has a direct effect on the local economy, as each construction project necessitates the hiring of specialised staff, the procurement of materials, and the engagement of firms within the construction sector. This momentum not only advantages promoters and builders but also stimulates the economy as a whole.”

In conclusion, the councillor stated that “the Urban Planning Management will persist in its efforts to streamline administrative processes and facilitate the initiatives of those wishing to undertake projects within the city, while consistently adhering to the principles of sustainability and responsible urban development.”
