SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Dec. 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife works on the preparation of a diagnosis of the situation of the gypsy people on the island that will cover social, economic and cultural aspects and will be the starting point to design an island strategy from the corporation with the support and collaboration of the entities of the third sector.

The CEO of Citizen Participation and Diversity, Nauzet Gugliotta, chaired this Friday the meeting of the Island Board of the Gypsy People together with the CEO of Equality, Priscila de León.

During the meeting the groups have participated actively and, for the first time, representatives of the political formations of the Island Corporation have also attended.

Among the objectives that have been set for 2022 is the development of this diagnosis, which seeks to know in detail the reality that the Roma population living in Tenerife lives.

“We have a firm commitment to stop guarding and start empowering people who are part of the migrant population of Tenerife”, Nauzet Gugliotta has valued.

In this way, the Insular Table of the Gypsy People seeks to be a body that encourages participation and full inclusion in the social and economic life of the island to the people who make up this group, with special attention to gypsy women.

The development of this table represents a further step in a claim that is included in the European framework of inclusion of the Roma population, by facilitating a participatory space for the communities in the places where they take place.

Likewise, the voices of the different nuclei of the gypsy population of the island are brought together, with the same participation, to propose island management policies.

GRANT OF 50,000 EUROS

During the meeting, in addition to the conclusions derived from the technical meetings held this year, the subsidy line set at 50,000 euros, which is already being enjoyed by three groups on the island, was presented.

In this way, within the subsidies for the associative fabric of the island of Tenerife to promote social and citizen participation, attend to diversity and support associations, a specific line is proposed to strengthen the associative fabric and social inclusion of the people Gypsy.

Among other actions, issues of comprehensive support for the group, opportunities for personal and work development, empowerment and visibility of Roma women and prevention of violence, among others, are raised, reports the Cabildo in a note.

In 2021, the plenary session of the Cabildo de Tenerife approved an institutional motion that recognizes the Roma people “their historical struggle for a more just, inclusive and respectful society with the Roma reality.”

This agreement includes the holding of the Insular Table of the Gypsy People, periodic technical meetings or the celebration of international, world or national days around the group.
