“Investing in the Value of Face-to-Face Education”

The Canary Islands Student Association has initiated an academic strike from December 11 to 18 concerning the Industrial Chemical Engineering degree at the University of La Laguna (ULL) due to the “untenable situation” of numerous subjects.

“We are compelled to take action because, despite paying tuition for in-person education, classes for 10 subjects in the degree programme are being conducted online. This breaches the regulations, given that the teaching of the Industrial Chemical Engineering degree is intended exclusively for in-person instruction,” they stated in a release.

The current predicament, he points out, “is attributable to a lecturer who, since 2021, claims a recommendation for the prevention of occupational hazards not to conduct face-to-face classes; in some instances, classes are not even being held online.”

In his view, “this situation has resulted in a low pass rate and has severely impacted our academic experience, diminishing our performance and professional prospects.” The students have organised a demonstration for next Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in front of the Higher School of Engineering and Technology.
