Santa Úrsula Expands Housing Options with 22 New Rental Homes

The Santa Úrsula City Council has initiated the process for the direct purchase and sale of 22 residences, each accompanied by a parking space, situated at number 96 Tosca de Ana María street. The purpose of this initiative is to allocate them for affordable social rent, specifically targeting local residents and families experiencing challenging circumstances.

This makes Santa Úrsula the first local authority in Tenerife to take such steps aimed at alleviating the current demand while simultaneously ensuring access to adequate housing for those in greatest need through this approach.

As stated by the city council, there are approximately 40 individuals actively seeking public rental accommodation who meet the criteria of this initiative.

For the procurement of these properties, Santa Úrsula has received financial assistance from the Cabildo, as part of the Activa Housing and Activa Soil programmes, amounting to a total of 1.1 million euros.

The acquisition of the properties has been appropriately justified, as they are the only options available on the market that meet the necessary conditions to address the housing requirements within this municipal area. Notably, they are abundant and are in an advanced stage of construction, requiring minimal modifications to be made immediately habitable once acquired.

Icavi Management

Upon formalising the purchase, the properties will be overseen by the Canarian Housing Institute (Icavi), an agency that operates under the auspices of the Canary Islands Government, which will establish the criteria for access to these rental properties.

According to the same municipal sources, it is anticipated that they will become available within a timeframe of 10 to 12 months post-acquisition.

“From the governing body, we are dedicated to the ongoing pursuit of social options to address the current housing requirements in order to meet the needs of our residents in this area. In this regard, efforts have been made in recent years to acquire land for the development of social rental housing; however, the competitions held were left unawarded. This opportunity offered by both the Cabildo and Icavi may alleviate the social housing situation in the municipality, benefiting our residents,” stated the mayor, Juan Acosta (AISU), when asked about this subject.
