The House of the Captains of La Laguna hosted the opening ceremony of the traditional nativity scene on Thursday, December 5, organised by the Board of Brotherhoods and Fraternities (JHC). The presentation of this nativity included the attendance of La Laguna’s mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, alongside the president of the JHC, Juan Antonio Pérez.
Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez emphasised “the diligent and selfless dedication of those who have been involved in this representation since last September, striving to create a composition that embodies pride and serves as a symbol for the citizens of La Laguna, in addition to the numerous nativity scenes scattered across the municipality.”

300 Figures
Juan Antonio Pérez, on his part, indicated that “this nativity scene at the Casa de los Capitanes consists of over 300 figures, encompassing both animals and human characters, many of which are crafted by José Luis Mayo Lebrija, one of the leading artisans of nativity scenes in our nation.”
A team of about fifteen individuals contributed to this nativity scene, featuring intricately chosen settings that endeavour to authentically reflect the historical context, including the figures, houses, vegetation, and trades depicted.
The nativity scene will be open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., from Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Various educational institutions in the municipality will arrange visits to this nativity in the upcoming weeks.
